THE ELAN LIVING DIARIES

It was a busy, changing, energetic and amazing week. A lot of good stuff happened. It doesn't feel like one week, more like two or three. It finally feels like everything falls into place and I feel more ready than ever. Let's make a little love and do a little dance!

Today's highlight was Tommy Hilfiger's Promise collection launch. The collection features pieces that either have been produced in Africa or that use locally sourced cotton. The collection is inspired by vibrant designs from various African countries. All profits from the range will be invested into Millennium Promise: a charity set up namely to halve extreme poverty in Africa.

It was great to attend Hilfiger's private launch of the Promise collection. It was quite busy, which is always good; nice people, good beats, good drinks and beautiful charity.

A very exciting day. At 1 o’clock I had a job interview at Amber Myhre Bosch Styling. Amber styles among others Sabrina Starke and Tiesto, is the fashion director of Prestage magazine and works for magazines Glamcult, Elegance, LINDA. and more.

I got the job! Exciting times ahead now and I'm lovin' it to the fullest. Of course I had to celebrate this with some friends. At the terrace. In the sun. Likey like!

Two events this evening: Baskèts' opening and When Blue Blood Meets Artists. First Baskèts, then Blue Blood. In my previous blogpost you can read how crazy I am about fresh new sneaker store Baskèts. It's swaggy high-end sneaker heaven!

Sipped some Absoluts at Baskèts the whole clan migrated to Ludwig II where the Blue Blood event took place. At Blue Blood's event I was crazy about the customized jean overalls made by artists Merijn Kavelaars, Lize Korpershoek, Bobby Wassenaar, Boudewijn van Ingen, Venour and The Olifants. Except from the cool and arty overalls, the tunes were really good so we danced and dougied into the night.

The first day at my new work. It started off with a meeting for a new project I can't tell something about yet. It's gonna be a cool video; that's all I can say. Woop!

22.05
A relaxing Sunday. That's all.

A day of styling and shopping at the PR-agencies for a running project. Today's inspirational trip is Damir Doma and Rick Owens. Mysteriousness and edge, but make it more commercial: that's the styling assignment.

I was very excited about a cool meeting at Björn Borg today. I adore their undies: they are the best. More about that shortly. Björn Borg got a present for me. Thanks a lot for that! Now I can bootcamp and squat it in Björn Borg style. Ejo!

I got some cool things on my mind. Hint: I love Bootcamp, I love music, I love to stand out, I love to dance and I love Björn Borg. That's all I can say for now. I'll keep you posted through my twitter.

On Wednesday morning I'm always pumping it at The Bootcamp Club. At 7 am. Just sayin'.

In my opinion you always have to work it in style. Comfortable style to be precise. This particular morning I moved my ass in Björn Borg's lovely green sportswear and a hysterical Versace by H&M cap. Teach me how to dougie!

In the afternoon there was a VIP sample sale of one of the coolest brands of the moment: Avelon. I'm totally in the Avelon vibe at the moment because of this week's Damir Doma and Rick Owens inspirational trip. Because it was such a good week, I spoiled myself. Woopsie!

On to the next fabulous week with lots of elan. Enjoy yours y'all!

L'OUVERTURE DE BASKÈTS

On Friday the 20th of April sneaker store Baskèts opened its doors at the Elandsgracht in Amsterdam. Baskèts is not just a sneaker store, it's a high-end sneaker store. Baskèts sells high-end lines from Vans, Nike and Clarks, cool Amsterdam-based brands as Etiquette Amsterdam and LocalsAMS and much more awesomeness. And don't we adore high-end, limited, original and fresh sneakers? Yes, we do!

Another swaggy and panache addition to Amsterdam's cool fashion stores. One with a good name: 'baskèts' simply means 'sneakers' in French slang. I'm lovin' it! Owners Jeffrey Sluijzer and Daan de Greef did a great job with the brands. Baskèts distinguishes itself from other sneaker stores with their selection of exclusive brands. Sneakers at baskets range from casual chic to sophisticated on trend. There is definitely something (special) for every sneaker addict at Baskèts.

Not only the brands, but also the interior is flying as well. The new boutique looks amazing just as its 'clothing brother' Jefferson Hotel, situated next-doors. Interior designer Robin Sluijzer did a great job again! With its clean white and light wooded walls, yet with a bit of vintage freshness this store is a breath of fresh air.

To celebrate its opening Baskèts let the elan invitees toast with loveable Absolut Vodka cocktails. Always good on a Friday night, don't you think? I sure do! The vibe was weekend-ish an the crowd got fresh for the weekend.

Doing a little dance om my own footwear while enjoying an Absolut I ogled at all the sneakers I'd love to add to my collection: too many. They're all to die for. Baskèts got me greedy!

LUXURIOUS PUMPING AT THE BOOTCAMP CLUB

Some define luxurious working out as training with a personal trainer. I like to define that differently. My definition of luxurious working out is bootcamp at the park, with a small group of motivated people and – ejo – Captain Jack (or Jacqueline) telling you to work it out. Let me rephrase: to move that ass!

The Bootcamp Club is the heavenly place where you can do this and where I do this. Their methodology is based on the routine of the U.S. Army. The routine is a cardiovascular and muscle strengthening full body work out that fits all fitness levels, men and woman. At The Bootcampclub they do it all: Running, fitness exercises and interval training. It's all about agility, endurance, strength and explosiveness. A one hour work out, all outdoors, back to fresco, back to basics.

Though it's still a bit chilly outside, we want to – some have to – get tight because our beloved summer is coming in. Besides getting in shape and caressing your ego you also get more energy, which is a thing I love. So we have to pump it, walk it, shake it (like a polaroid), squat it, jump it, bounce it, twist it & dip it, squeeze it, work it and drop it (like it's hot). Like really!

Reading this some of you may think I got a sunburn. Well I don't, because the sun isn't shining that intense yet. I just honestly love to do it. Always with a bit of humor, elan, panache and of course in style. And now work it!

A LABEL TO WATCH: ANDREA POMPILIO

Swaggy casual Italian chicness. That's what comes to my mind when I think of the Fall/Winter 2012 collection of menswear designer Andrea Pompilio. This gent is definitely one to watch! I am really crazy about Andrea Pompilio's Fall/Winter 2012 collection. It breaths style and luxury, but still got swag with a bit of humor. The perfect clash in my opinion.

Every style-conscious guy needs to have this label on his radar: A by Andrea Pompilio. Andrea Pompilio is definitely one of my favourites for 2012's Fall/Winter. I simply adore his collection. Worked for Allesandro dell'Acqua, Prada, Calvin Klein and Yves Saint Laurent, the man definitely knows what he is doing with his own label. The rich fabrics, my palette of colours, the scarves, the bags, the prints, the loose cut, yet Italian tailoring: it all has a nice twist I love.

Pompilio's look is unusual, but it doesn't shock you. That's how I like to dress and that's why I'm probably having such a crush on his label. See here my favourites chosen out of Andrea Pompilio's Fall/Winter 2012 show presented in Florence, Italy.

And some more snaps.

When the Italian Vogue asked Pompilio to define his style in three words, his answer was “in-for-mal”. And that is something you can see. The collection was filled with uplifting elements. The fabrics were luxurious and cut masterfully creating modern silhouettes. Andrea shows us a sense of humor in clothing, but it still looks amazingly stylish. I can sense some casual citywear tweaked to chicness. And then there were the shoes: outspoken, but a real must-have. Damn, they are cool!

Pompilio is ambitious and he dares to take risks. His goal is to redefine modern menswear and I have to say that he is killing it. You make me want to have it all Pompilio. Make me more and more. If you got it, flaunt it!

YELLOW, IT'S BANANAS

Some say it's the colour of summer, others say it's the colour symbolizing jealousy. Both are true. For me yellow really stands for summer. As regards jealousy, people probably envy you because you are looking so damn fresh wearing that popping yellow.

I don't know what it is, but I'm into to yellow at the moment. When I look at the pictures I liked on Instagram and pinned or repinned on Pinterest, it is all about yellow; a stripe, a little detail or all over, there's yellow in it. I am probably in love with this colour because I can't wait for the summer. Spring already seduced me with some warmth, sun, terraces and beach, so that should be it.

Yellow is a big trend in woman's fashion. Not only on the runway, but maybe even more in streetstyle.

I'm so glad, according to the runway shows, men are finally allowed to put some colour in their closet. Men could easily wear some yellow. It is the same as wearing a bow-tie: dare to stand out. In my opinion yellow also embodies confidence. Wearing it you are not afraid to be cool. Lack what other people think and wear that yellow (bottle, sippin').

I know yellow is too outspoken for some men, but try something new. Blend the yellowness in. Like these men did.

The plight of the everyday rustic bores sometimes. Doesn't it? Out of my closet this is my favourite yellow piece.

Put yourself in that limelight. Wearing colour in a bland colourless city simply sparkles my day. It's an explosion of colour wearing yellow out on the streets. Colourfull garments make us smile. And don't we love to smile? It's bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
